The page grid
When trying to position objects precisely on your page, it's often helpful to see a grid of lines, similar to graph paper. You can display a grid in the document window by clicking the View menu, pointing to Show, and then clicking Grid (or press CTRL+' ). You can turn the grid off again by choosing this command again. By default, objects snap to the grid when it is visible. You can turn off this behavior (or turn it on again) by clicking Snap to Grid on the View menu.

Note that the page grid is always drawn upright (vertically and horizontally relative to the screen), even when you rotate the document view. You can control the spacing of the grid lines in the Grid size field in the Units and Grids panel of the Options dialog box.
